Members of the Old Hatfield Ladies Running club (www.ohladies.co.uk) were put through their paces by Olympic middle distance runner Jemma Simpson on the track at Gosling Sports Park this week (Monday).

Former British 800 metres champion Simpson, who competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, shared her expertise with a group of about 25 local runners, showing them how to warm up and improve their muscle strength before taking them through part of one of her training sessions.

“I’m trying to give everyone and example of how an Olympic athlete would warm up for a session and then show the type of session they would do to improve and gain fitness,” said the 31-year-old, who is aiming for selection for next year’s Rio Olympics.

Oh Lady member Melissa Mileham of Hatfield only took up running four months ago but enjoyed the special track session.

“It was good fun. I enjoyed learning something new and it was inspiring to see what Jemma and athletes at her level can do.”

Victoria Tidd of Hatfield, who completed the 2015 London Marathon, said, despite running for the past 10 years, it had been a new experience for her.

“I’ve never run on the track before and it was good to run some miles on it, learning to save some energy and see the discipline you need to run at pace.”

A member of the Oh Ladies since 2013, Tidd added: “The Oh Ladies club is amazing. It keeps going from strength to strength. It started off as a small group of women running together and now there’s lots of members all supporting and encouraging each other.”

The training session was organised by Oh Ladies through athletic clothing company Lornah Sports (www.lornahsports.co.uk), for whom Simpson is an ambassador, and was open to other women’s running clubs in the Welwyn Hatfield area.

“It was brilliant, the group was really friendly and inspiring,” said Jo Jamieson from Welwyn and a member of the Welwyn Garden City Running Mummies.

“I’ve been running for almost 20 years and that was the first Fartlek (speed) session I’ve done because I’ve always been scared.”

Oh Ladies caters for all levels of runners from absolute beginners to seasoned marathon runners and holds sessions at various locations around Hatfield and WGC.

The club’s qualified leaders offer a wide range of different activities such as ‘New to Running’ courses, ‘Boot Camp’ and ‘Kids’ Club,  all of which combine fitness with fun.

The Richmond Running Festival 2015

We had fun in the sun at this year’s Richmond Running Festival in Old Deer Park, Richmond. Despite an awful August, September started off with an Indian Summer and on the first weekend of the month the sun spilled out over the festivities.

The runners were beaming as they all ran faster than expected possibly due to the warm conditions, so they flocked to the Lornah sports uk tent to take a sneaky peak at our 2016 range.

We had lots of positive reviews mainly along the lines of ‘Wow, isn’t this different’ ‘It’s so nice to see something different out there’ ‘We love the bright colours’ ‘I need the full set’ ‘I love to see something that I can run in and also wear to the coffee shop after my run.’

Nell McAndrews was the star of our show as she raced in the one and only limited edition ‘Lornah sports uk Jemba running dress’ It’s not often that you see someone running in a dress but Nell is ahead of the game setting a trend that is soon to catch on big time.

Nell said ‘ Now that I’m a little bit older I like a bit more coverage whilst still allowing my body to feel free and to breathe easily.’ ‘I love the running dress and would highly recommend it.’

Our #selfieROAR competition winners were delighted with their lornah sports uk outfits and especiallypleased to meet Nell and receive a signed copy of her book ‘A guide to running.’

All in all it was a smashing day, we loved it, we loved meeting all of you lovely runners as much as you enjoyed grabbing a selfie with our Lion mascot Lef.

Everybody seemed to love the festival atmosphere and had a very positive Richmond Runing Festival experience. Please join us next year.

Welcome to the Pride

We announced our first batch of Lornah Ambassadors known as the PRIDE at the Bupa Westminster Mile which is also the British Mile Championships. Our ambassadors included Racheal Bamford (steeplechaser from Leeds), Jemma Simpson (800m Olympian, Cornwall), Gemma Hillier (1500m-5k, Loughborough), Megan Edwards(800m, Loughborough). Our Pride did us proud as Racheal Bamford shocked the crowd infront of Buckingham Palace by beating a quality field including Hannah England (World Silver medalist).

This is just the start of the season so follow our girls on twitter and support the Pride!

Lornah at ‘The Night of the 10,000m PB’s’

At Lornah Sports UK we go with our ‘instincts’, we just knew after our fine reception at the BeFit expo in Islington we had to head back over to north London, this time a little more north to Highgate.

Running festivals have become a bit of a trend in recent years.  More and more of us Brits see running as a challenge, as escapism, as a way of clearing the mind and we have finally realised that it is simply the best way of keeping fit and healthy. It has become part of a lifestyle choice combined with healthy eating - once you start you just can’t stop!

So…. we headed down to ‘The Night of the 10,000m PB’s” Track festival at Parliament hill running track. The event consisted of multiple 10k races on the track giving people the opportunity to earn themselves a good 10k pb. Doing it on the track allows for the most accurate time you can get and then you can take that time to any road 10ks and compare. It really was a festival we had drums playing, a live dj, beer tents and best of all a Lornah stand showing off our beautiful sports wear coupled with our cheering squad of lionesses who we had just taken for a run around Hampstead Heath.

GB Olympian Jemma Simpson our lead lioness, led the run with Jade and afterwards took our new recruits for an Olympic style warm up/cool down routine teaching them the do’s and don’t and how to keep the body injury free and moving forward. We loved meeting and running with new faces. Our youngest members Violet and Rebecca came over from from Camden where they live whilst studying fashion and design. Our other Rebecca just came back from running over the ‘Sahara desert’ and Amy Capper will be joining us for the Westminister mile next weekend. Such a variety of women brought together through running! Fabulous!

Check out more pictures from the night on our Facebook page. We can’t wait to up date you all on the launch of our ambassadors and the Westminister mile next weekend. Do come and watch/say hi if you see us. We can’t be missed – we will be wearing the brightest, most cheerful running kit on the start line.

Since taking on the challenge of launching a brand new running apparel in the UK we have been none stop busy. From the success we had at the London Marathon expo last week we decided to present our range to a slightly different audience at the Be Fit expo in Islington. At the stage we are at with the brand, vital feedback is a necessity and therefore show casing the range is very important to us.

Once again we were thrilled with the feedback we received. Our most popular comments were “ It is so nice to see something different” or “ I have to have those Capri’s, I absolutely love the print.”

BeFit was a great expo for small companies to showcase their goodies. You had everything from ‘Chia seeds’ to the growing trend of ‘Gluten free’ products to celebrity trainers such as Louise Hazel (Olympian) from ‘The podium effect.” Louise took a class of over 100 women through some rigorous excersizes, I poked my head in to take a look and WOW she put them through their paces!! She also happened to be wearing a pair of our Eshe Capri’s that looked AMAZING on her and consequently, we had more lovely ladies rushing over to our stand to buy a pair before we ran out of stock.

Lornah roars into London Town!

WOW….. Is the best way to describe the week we just had! We officially launched for the first time on British soil at the London Marathon Expo and are simply amazed and utterly grateful for the response we got from the British public.

Launching a new brand is quite a daunting prospect as you never quite know how well it will be received. We just want to give everyone a huge THANK YOU for giving us the confidence to press on and we can’t wait to share our future with you.

Here is a brief look back at the week we just had:

ThursdayKelly Holmes Britains Best ever middle distance runner visits our pop up shop.

Thursday – Our official launch party.

Friday –  Team Lornah go to the Running awards. Lornah presents ‘best online retailer’ Jemma Simpson presents ‘Best Bra award’ Such a lovely evening meeting so many people from the running industry.

Sunday – Marathon Day – We had the hottest seats in the house. We saw the London Marathon right by the finishing line by Buckingham Palace with our guests Lorraine Candy and Tim Weeks.

An Exclusive Sneaky Peak...Lornah is summoned to the Palace!

Our big launch is set for the London Marathon Exhibition at the end of April, but being the impatient Lions that we are, thought we would offer a sneak peak of the range to runners at the Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon. We also needed to train two new members of staff, who were very impressive. Please meet 'Leffe the Lion' and 'Sarah the Lion'.

Hampton Court Place Half Marathon

Sunday 29th March we ventured down to the inaugural Palace Half, which saw runners run through the Royal grounds of Hampton Court Palace and beautiful Home Park. The two lap route enabled the spectators a perfect view of the runners who had to endure blistering winds and at times, heavy rain! Despite the horrible weather, we got to show off some of the Lornah range and received amazing feedback from the runners. We also had 800m Olympic athlete and 'Lornah ambassador' Jemma Simpson offering some running tips and working out the Lions' 'best side'.

Lornah wants to congratulate all who completed the Hampton Court Half Marathon and hope you enjoy your unique King Henry VIII medal. It was a pleasure meeting you, and in answer to your question, 'It was REAL Lions, Woof woof...I mean...ROAR!'
